Ethical clearance and consent: This study was ethically approved by the Tufts Medical Center/Tufts University Institutional Review Board after meeting the required ethical standards. Every prospective participant was explained the purpose of the research and was requested to participate freely. A consent form containing details of the study regarding main purpose, role of participants, and benefits associated with participating in the study (if any) was given to each prospective participant. Those who agreed to participate in the study signed a written consent form. Patients who did not agree to participate in the study were not denied any services or treated with partiality.

Augmentation index and aortic stiffness in bicuspid aortic valve patients with non-dilated proximal aortas
BACKGROUND We compared aortic stiffness, aortic impedance and pressure from wave reflections in the setting of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) to the tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) in the absence of proximal aortic dilation. We hypothesized BAV is associated with abnormal arterial stiffness. METHODS Ten BAV subjects (47 ± 4 years, 6 male) and 13 TAV subjects (46 ± 4 years, 10 male) without signific...
متن کاملEndothelial function, carotid-femoral stiffness, and plasma matrix metalloproteinase-2 in men with bicuspid aortic valve and dilated aorta.
OBJECTIVES This study sought to examine the relationship between proximal aortic dilation and systemic vascular function in men with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). BACKGROUND Proximal aortic dilation in subjects with BAV is associated with structural and functional abnormalities in the ascending aorta. METHODS We studied 32 men (median age 31 years [range 28 to 32 years]) with nonstenotic BAV...
متن کاملBicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva
Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...

Aortic Cross-Sectional Area/Height Ratio and Outcomes in Patients With Bicuspid Aortic Valve and a Dilated Ascending Aorta.
BACKGROUND In patients with bicuspid aortic valve and dilated proximal ascending aorta, we sought to assess (1) factors associated with increased longer-term cardiovascular mortality and (2) incremental prognostic use of indexing aortic root to patient height. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied 969 consecutive bicuspid aortic valve patients (50±13 years; 87% men) with proximal aorta ≥4 cm, who al...
